Friends of Roscomare After School Enrichment Program

These classes are offered by Friends of Roscomare (FOR) and are taught by existing daytime Roscomare enrichment teachers. This program is run entirely by FOR parent volunteers. 100% of the proceeds from the program support the enrichment, teacher aides, and services not provided by LAUSD. There are four sessions per school year, with each session running approximately ten weeks. Classes typically include art, technology, and dance/music.

In order to purchase Friends of Roscomare After School enrichment classes, you will need to have a Membership Toolkit account! If you have not yet done so, register so that you are ready to go when after school class registration opens this week.

 Class Descriptions

(MONDAY - UTK/TK & Kindergarten)

Mixed Media Crafts: In this exciting art class students will work with multiple materials to create unique crafts and artworks. Students will enhance their critical thinking skills as well as their creativity.

Cost $220/student

(TUESDAY - 1st, 2nd, 3rd grades)

Clay Sculptors: Students will create a wide range of clay creations from animal sculptures to fine clay trinkets, while developing their fine motor and critical thinking skills.

Cost $242/student

(WEDNESDAY - UTK/TK & Kindergarten)

Clay Creations: Students will learn how to pinch, roll, cut and build up layers of clay to form shapes of all kinds. As they learn how to manipulate the clay, they will discover that their hands can be powerful tools.

(THURSDAY - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th grades)

Beginner Architecture: In this course, students will work on their communication skills, the ability to work alone or as a team, and to think creatively. Elements of mathematics, drafting a blueprint, art history, and architectural history will enhance students ability to design their dream structure.

(FRIDAY - Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grades)

Textile Arts: Students will think out of the canvas and create works of art by combining a wide selection of art mediums including paper weaving, yarn creations, decorating clothing, fabric, and tie dye.

Jr. Scratch Game Coding: In this course, students will explore Scratch Coding.  The program Scratch is now universally considered every young coder's first step to learning actual coding languages.

Computer Mouse Course: Join us for an after-school club where our youngest students practice their skills with the computer mouse. Students will have fun playing games while strengthening their muscle memory and comprehension of clicking and moving the mouse in time with following the computer screen.

Bloxels Game Builder: In this course, students will use Bloxel Builder software and a huge amount of creativity to create characters, art, and stories that will be featured in their very own arcade games.

Podcast: Students will research, draft and develop original stories, record and edit audio to create their own podcast episodes.

Musical Theater Prep Mini Session: Students will create a wide range of clay creations from animal sculptures to fine clay trinkets, while developing their fine motor and critical thinking skills.

Pop Fusion Dance: This new class is geared to that students who have a genuine love of dance and a desire to further their dance education. Emphasis will be placed on learning the importance of conveying emotions and the power of storytelling through dance.

Choir: This program fosters a love for singing and music in a collaborative and supportive environment. Choir will focus on group singing where students engage in a variety of vocal exercises and songs, learning to sing together as a cohesive unit.

This program will begin on Thursday, September 12 and continue into Session 2.  It will end with two performances on Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7.

Introducing our Fall Play, Shrek Jr!  

Open to 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.

Cost $675/student

 

Everyone's favorite ogre is back in this hilarious stage spectacle, based on the Oscar-winning smash hit film and outrageous Broadway musical.  It's a "big bright beautiful world" as everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance.
